Beautiful Minds® X North Melbourne Kangaroos
The Huddle had a bold idea. What if North Melbourne Football Club could be the most exciting classroom a child ever walks into?
The Huddle's CEO, Cameron McLeod, reached out to Beautiful Minds®, recognising our 23 years of experience helping children learn, grow and discover what they're capable of. Our renowned storytelling would bring that understanding to life in a whole new way.
Making it real meant finding a team that could build a stadium out of sound and story. Beautiful Minds® went looking, and found Spatial in California.
Spatial was led by Darrell Rodriguez, who had already spent a career creating worlds. He was a Disney Imagineer, building immersive experiences for theme parks. He was President of LucasArts, George Lucas's legendary games studio and the home of Star Wars and Indiana Jones. Darrell heard the vision and was in.
Around him was a team that had shaped the modern world: a founding engineer of Nest, a product lead behind iPhone and Apple TV, and a member of the original Apple team who helped Steve Jobs launch the iPhone to the world. Spatial was backed by National Geographic, The Kraft Group and Fenway Sports Group. MKTG joined to bring the craft of world-class live events.
Together, we built Game Day like a film, weaving screenplay, sound, visuals and special effects into one immersive experience.
Spatial went to Marvel Stadium to capture the real roar of an AFL crowd, then wrapped it around the room through 21 channels of sound. When the lights go down, a room full of Grade 5 and 6 students forgets it's an excursion. For four quarters they're on the ground, solving STEM challenges as a team. The kids learn to win as a team through the power of sports.
Game Day opened in 2022 as an Australian first, free for schools and built for the kids who need it most. A year later, Game Day was named the Asia Pacific's best application of AV in education.
